Jan received his DrVetMed from the University Vienna, Austria and his PhD from Texas A&M University. He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM). His research is focused on developing biomarkers for gastrointestinal disease and intestinal microbiota. He has co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed articles in the area of veterinary gastroenterology and microbiome research. In 2024, he received the AVMA career achievement in canine research award.
